A number of dignitaries were in attendance at the UNM Biology Department’s annual Research Days and Open House including (l. to r.): College of Art & Sciences Dean Mark Peceny, Karl Johnson, MD (discovered both Ebola and Hantavirus), State Senator Cisco McSorley, former UNM President David Schmidly and director of the Museum of Southwestern Biology, Joe Cook.

DGRE upgrade

Museum of Southwestern Biology Director Joe Cook, center, discusses the Division of Genomic Resources facility upgrade. With the new facility, samples previously archived at –80oC in 17 freezers are migrating into new, more secure cryogenic nitrogen-vapor facility (-190oC).
